VITA 34 AG improves result in 1st quarter 2012
Leipzig, April 26, 2012 - The VITA 34 AG (ISIN DE000A0BL849), the oldest
private umbilical cord blood bank in the German-speaking countries, was
able to increase its consolidated result in the first quarter of 2012 to
EUR -0.21 million compared to EUR -0.30 million last year. Because of cost
savings, the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and
amortization (EBITDA) have also increased to EUR -0.03 million in the first
quarter of 2012 compared to EUR -0.19 million in the previous year. The
earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) have increased from EUR -0.41
million in the previous year to EUR -0.29 million.
In the first quarter 2012, 1,732 umbilical cord blood preparations were
stored, compared to 2,190 storages in the previous year. VITA 34 has so far
stored almost 88,000 preparations and hence is the undisputed market leader
in the German-speaking countries. The revenue in the first quarter 2012
amounted to EUR 3.15 million compared to EUR 3.71 million for the same
period last year.
Two more children were treated with stem cells from umbilical cord blood
stored at VITA 34 in the first quarter 2012. The number of applications of
VITA 34 preparations thus amounts to a total of 21.
VITA 34 plans to further optimize the costs in the further course of the
year. After the first quarter, the corporation is confident of achieving
its overall goal for 2012 of moderately improving the operating performance
in comparison with the previous year.
